As we went through our own matched betting journey, it became clear to us that our equipment setup is extremely important. After all, if you’re a serious matched bettor who spends several hours each week in front of a computer, not only do you need the right equipment to do things more efficiently, you also need the right equipment to minimise potential injury. This aspect of matched betting is often overlooked by others but we want to highlight it here. As valuable as it is to build a consistent income, your health and safety is much more valuable.
And although this topic isn’t directly related to matched betting, we feel it is responsible to offer our personal recommendations of equipment setup that will help you to do things more efficiently and minimise potential injury.
None of these recommended equipment are mandatory purchases of course, but we feel that for your health and safety, they are worthy investments.
Jump Ahead To
Extra Monitor
As serious matched bettors, we are used to having multiple windows open on our screen a lot of the time, which can cause eye strain, especially when frequently switching between windows. We recommend having an extra monitor so that you can display fewer windows per monitor and reduce the frequency of switching between windows – your eyes will thank you for it!
The added benefit of an extra monitor is that you can place matched bets much quicker by having the bookmaker sites, exchange sites, as well as the Matchers/Calculators spread across more than one monitor.

Ergonomic Mouse
Your wrist takes a lot of punishment from frequent mouse use. Traditional mouses are not friendly to your wrist as it needs to be turned in a horizontal position which is not its natural position. We also tend to mainly use our wrist to move the mouse. Long-term mouse usage in this position can cause discomfort and lead to developing repetitive strain injury (RSI) and carpal tunnel in your wrist.
We recommend an ergonomic mouse where your wrist can work comfortably in its natural vertical position. Also, when your wrist is vertical, the mouse movement will come more from your arm than your wrist. An ergonomic mouse is much more friendly to your wrist and will reduce your chances of developing RSI and carpal tunnel.

Ergonomic Keyboard
Traditional keyboards are not friendly to your hands as they are required to work in a completely horizontal position which is not their natural position. Long-term usage in this position can cause discomfort in your hands and can lead to developing RSI and carpal tunnel in your fingers and wrist.
We recommend an ergonomic keyboard where your hand can work comfortably in a more neutral position. Ergonomic keyboards are sloped and include palm rests for better wrist alignment and support. They allow you to work much more comfortably and reduce your chances of developing RSI and carpal tunnel.

Ergonomic Chair
Poor posture can lead to back problems. It is imperative to look after your back, especially when sitting in front of a computer for hours. The quality of your chair plays a huge part in the health of your back. Sitting in a wrong chair can cause a number of lower back issues, not to mention shoulder and neck issues.
We recommend an ergonomic chair that can minimise these types of issues. Suitable ergonomic chairs encourage the correct posture. They can adapt to the curvature of your spine and offer support to your back and waist.

Monitor Stand
Neck strain and other similar types of neck injuries often come from incorrect monitor alignment. When a monitor is not correctly aligned, we too often tilt our neck so that we can fully focus on that monitor. By tilting our neck, we are forcing it to carry the weight of our head with less support from our body. Not only does this cause neck strain and other similar types of neck injuries, it can also lead to shoulder and back pain.
We recommend a monitor stand that allows you to adjust the height of a monitor. Adjusting a monitor at eye level allows you to keep your neck, shoulder and back straight whilst you work. This proper alignment can significantly reduce your risk of injury.

Memory Foam Back Cushion
We cannot stress enough how important it is to look after the health of your back, and so we need to protect it as much as possible. As well as an ergonomic chair, we also encourage using a memory foam back cushion for extra support. Memory foam adapts to the shape of your back and helps to relieve pressure. Even without an ergonomic chair, a memory foam cushion will certainly add extra support and comfort to your existing chair.

Cushioned Mouse Mat
We’ve already stressed the importance of looking after the health of your wrist. As well as an ergonomic mouse, we also encourage the use of a cushioned mouse mat to rest your wrist whilst using a mouse.
